Dear all
Hope you all are safe and well.
As most of you would be aware, the Government of India is opening up vaccination for people above the age of 18 from 1st May, 2021 in state government hospitals and private hospitals (while central government hospitals will continue to vaccinate only those aged 45+). Registrations to get vaccinated on CoWIN and the Aarogya Setu App will be opened up from 28th April, 2021. It is recommended to use the CoWIN website (rather than the app) or the Aarogya Setu app for the same. Please note that registering is mandatory in order to get the vaccine, as the walk-in registrations will not be available in this phase.
In the current scenario, vaccination seems to be the only ray of hope. Vaccinations are central to any negotiations about the reopening of campus. Given that two doses and a period of 2-weeks are required for immunity, it would be beneficial if a majority of students get vaccinated as soon as possible. Both the currently rolled out vaccines – Covaxin and Covishield, have shown promising results and are effective against the COVID-19 virus. According to govt data, mere 3-4 in 10,000 people who received the vaccines contracted the virus again. This short cut-the-clutter episode is a good explainer about the importance of getting vaccinated to tackle the current crisis and bring back some normalcy.
In light of this, we urge all students to get vaccinated as soon as possible. We are also in talks about setting up a vaccination fund to ensure that students who cannot afford the vaccine are also covered. Once we figure out the logistics, we will update the student body about the same.
